Therapeutic indications:

It is indicated in Testosterone replacement therapy; in hypogonadal disorders such as: eunuchoidism, hypopituitarism, endocrine impotence, male climacteric symptoms such as decreased libido and decreased mental and physical activity, and certain types of infertility caused by spermatogenesis disorders.

Testosterone therapy may be indicated in osteoporosis of androgen deficiency origin.

Delayed puberty: When there is a family pattern of delayed puberty, not secondary to a pathological disorder, in patients who did not respond to psychological support therapy.

Congenital or acquired primary hypogonadism: when there is testicular failure due to cryptorchidism, bilateral torsion, testicular absence syndrome, or orchidectomy.

Breast carcinoma: As a secondary palliative treatment of metastatic breast cancer in women with hormone responsive tumors or who have previously shown a response to hormone therapy.

Treatment of Microphallus: Also called micropenis, a disease in which the child is born with an abnormally small penis.

Mechanism of action:

At many sites of action, Testosterone is not the active form of the hormone, but is converted by steroid 5-reductase to the more active Dihydrotestosterone. Dihydrotestosterone binds to an intracellular receptor protein, and this complex is fixed in the nucleus to specific hormone regulatory elements on chromosomes and acts to increase the synthesis of RNA and specific proteins.

Androgens are responsible for the stimulation of spermatogenesis, the development of sexual characteristics, and the maturation of sexual stimulation at puberty.

Dosage and mode of use:

An injection of 1 ml every 3 weeks is recommended, but it is preferable that the doctor adjust the dose to the individual response of the patient.

Contraindications and restrictions of use:

In case of suffering from any of the following diseases: breast tumors in men, prostate tumor, high blood calcium levels, severe liver disease or severe kidney disease. This medicine should not be administered to pregnant women because it produces a high percentage of alterations in the fetus.

If this drug is administered to women with a breast tumor, treatment should be discontinued if there is a significant rise in blood calcium levels.

It should be administered with special caution in case of suffering from any of the following diseases: diabetes, swelling of the face, hands, legs or feet, moderate liver disease, enlarged prostate.

Interactions:

It is important to inform the treating physician of all the medications that the patient is taking because it can interact with some medications, such as:

Anticoagulants: The anticoagulant effect can be increased due to the decrease in the procoagulant factor, caused by the decrease in its synthesis.

Antidiabetic Agents (Insulin): Androgens can lower blood glucose concentration.

May also interact with: amiodarone, antibiotics, female hormones, oral contraceptives, phenytoin, or valproic acid.

Overdose:
