Oxandrolone was designed as an extremely mild anabolic, one that could be safely used as a growth stimulant in children. However, for the most part it is now manufactured for the purpose of treating HIV/AIDS related wasting syndrome. The expediting of wound healing, particularly the treatment of burns, is another use but is far more rare.
